Summary, etc On November 8, 1946, Viola Desmond was arrested for refusing to move from the 'whites-only' section of a movie theater in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. By taking a heroic stand against racial segregation, Viola became a symbol of courage in the fight against inequality.
